Tom2Trax Electronic & Dance - Record Picks 28th April 2026

Another week, another batch of house, disco, boogie, dubbed-out jazz-funk and mediate ambience - what more could you ask for?

From big names such as Kerri Chandler, Blaze, Grant Dell and Ron Trent, through to contemporary artists such as Frits Wentink and Dor Wand, it's all here this week, as we ramp up our dance and electronic section with plenty of heat.

Kerri Chandler - Lost and Found EP Vol 2

The king of deep, lights-low, basement club beats comes up with the goods once again on his Lost and Found EP Vol 2.

Back in stock again, this beefed-up, bottom-heavy four tracker from Kerri Chandler traverses all corners of deep house. From the thick, percussive dubbed restraint of ‘Fluff Rehab’, to the electronic future-jazz-funk-esque excursions of ‘What If’.

‘Who Are You’ kicks off the b side with a vocal-forward club roller featuring suspenseful strings and a garage-y chord progression on the keys. EP closer ‘Dem Joy Ride’ throws a curveball on the record, with Afro horns, funked-up guitar licks, and an all-round more organic feel.

Pack this one in your back and you’ll never take it out!

Midnight Blue - One Wish - South Carolina 1975-83

Past Due Records are at it again with another unearthed collection of gold dust from the past. As it says on the cover, this release highlights the years 1975-83, with some absolute firebombs from the band’s mid-1980s American boogie funk era.

Highlights include ‘Because of You’, which arrives with dripping wet moody synth lines, gospel chorus vocals, and an upfront slap bass that would made Flea quake in his boots. ‘So Fine’ is backed by the kind of electronic bass synth line that instantly fills a dance floor.

‘Wishing’ turns the heat up a few notches, with baby-making vocal interplay and a super slow BPM. ‘Enjoy With Me’ fires up the tempo again for another rendezvous with the slap bass and synthesiser - a sound typical of this record. Disco heads - there’s a plenty of the good stuff in here.

Frits Wentink & Malin Genie / Wim Waldo / Quinn Davis / Fabian Feld - BODO-ACE VA 006

Bobby Donny is a label synonymous with deep, dub house cuts and bumpin’ modern thick club tracks. This various artists release is no exception.

‘Pedicel Carrier’ by Malin Genie & Frits Wentink opens up the A side with a warbling, rubbery bass and chunky drums. The pair come back for the A2 with ‘Compound O.P.’ - a slightly more optimistic, dreamy house cut, but with that similar elastic bass running through its DNA. Wim Waldo’s ‘Deep Inside’ lifts the mood further with its vocal chops and jazzy, tape-warped keys.

On the flip side, Quinn Davis’ ‘Detection Zone’ is a technicolour, spiralling, uplifting, dubby, club track reminiscent of YT’s ‘Afternoon’. Fabian Feld closes out with two tracks, ‘Cold Circulation’, which crisply rolls through with its upfront beat, and ‘Deft Geometry’, which lays on the FX and dub-echoes for a true headsy closer.

Such a versatile EP for club DJ’s of the house persuasion.

Blaze - 20:20 Vision Dubs n Edits

Slip ’n’ Slide are back, this time with a fresh reinterpretation project from 20/20 Vision’s Ralph Lawson and Carl Finlow. They take on legendary New Jersey deep house outfit Blaze.

‘Lovelee Dae’ gets a modern, swelling, washy re-work in the 20:20 Vision Dub, perfect for those moments at 2am under low-ceilings when the crowd is locked in. ‘Wishing You Were Here’ gets a Random Factor Dub treatment - angling it towards 80’s vocoder territory. The B side takes ‘Funky People’ and flips it, as well as another dub mix of ‘Wishing You Were Here’.

Edgy, suspenseful, clubby house for the modern age - tip!

Huw Marc Bennett - Tresilian Bay

Every so often an album comes along that’s just too good to pass up on. Huw Marc Bennett’s Tresilian Bay might just be one of these such records. With its combination of Augustus Pablo-esque dub and Idris Muhammed groove, set against the backdrop of contemporary vocals and progressive sounds - it’s a slice of funk-groove that combines the vintage with the new.

A so-called nod to hedonistic summer nights spent anywhere from the Glamorgan coast to the hot Lewisham streets, Tresilian Bay is named after  the bay near where Huw grew up, supposedly steeped in tall tales of ancient Welsh royalty, smugglers and pirates.

Soul lovers, balearic chin-strokers, jazz appreciators, and club DJ’s needing that perfect bar record - I think we’re all going to agree on loving this record.

Dor Wand - Alchemy of Being

When you read the words ‘a deep ambient exploration inspired by Jungian analysis, olfactory meditations and psycho-nautic navigations’ - you instantly know you’re in for a cerebral journey into the mind. So take a load off, light your favourite incense, sip on some of that fancy green tea you bought at the makers’ market last Summer, and enjoy the magical escapism of Dor Wand’s Alchemy of Being.

Mellow synths wash over your ear drums, echoes of familiar eastern instruments play out in the distant audio field of your mind - but one things for sure, this 11 track odyssey is the cure for the speed of the modern age.

Home listening perfection.

New African Orchestra / Lost Tymeez / USG - The Ron Trent Collection Vol.1

Ron Trent just has that sound. It’s deep, but spacious and light. It’s a lower than average club tempo, yet filled with rich organic instrumentation to lift you up into the gods with hope, rejoice, and celebratory fever.

‘The Ron Trent Collection Vol.1’ platforms the musical spirituality that makes Ron Trent one of house’s most revered producers.

Marking the long awaited return of the Nite Grooves label, this release is statement to say the least. From the steady, jazzy restraint of ‘Village Dance’, through to the tribal percussion of ‘The Rhythm’, there’s soul dripping from every corner of this release. The b side continues the rhythms, soul, and spirituality with ‘Everyday’ and ‘Afro Journey Beats’.

A must-buy for the soulful house DJ.

Grant Dell - Come On In / We Go deep

Gems keep on pulling out these UK house killer cuts from yesterday. Off the back of the recent ‘Tonto’s Drum’ reissue, we’re now seeing Grant Dell’s ‘Come On In’ and ‘We Go Deep’ get the spotlight once again.

Wiggle regular and co-founder of Swag Records, Grant Dell is still very much an active DJ, tearing up dance floors worldwide. All of this makes the reintroduction of his classic release even more coveted.

‘Come on in’ has that signature swing of so many early UK tech house tracks, it’s minimal, stripped back, and utilises only the essential ingredients of house music. ‘We Go Deep’ uses a provocative vocal and off-beat stabs to take up the heat - perfect for when you want to maintain the energy in a thriving club without taking it too heavy.

This record will excite house heads and techno fans of all persuasions with its timeless, hybrid sound.

Until next time Deejays, vinyl collectors, selectors, and Shazamers.
