Frits Wentink & Malin Genie – BODO-ACE VA 006

Bobby Donny is a label synonymous with deep, dub house cuts and bumpin’ modern thick club tracks. This various artists release is no exception.

‘Pedicel Carrier’ by Malin Genie & Frits Wentink opens up the A side with a warbling, rubbery bass and chunky drums. The pair come back for the A2 with ‘Compound O.P.’ - a slightly more optimistic, dreamy house cut, but with that similar elastic bass running through its DNA. Wim Waldo’s ‘Deep Inside’ lifts the mood further with its vocal chops and jazzy, tape-warped keys.

On the flip side, Quinn Davis’ ‘Detection Zone’ is a technicolour, spiralling, uplifting, dubby, club track reminiscent of YT’s ‘Afternoon’. Fabian Feld closes out with two tracks, ‘Cold Circulation’, which crisply rolls through with its upfront beat, and ‘Deft Geometry’, which lays on the FX and dub-echoes for a true headsy closer.

Such a versatile EP for club DJ’s of the house persuasion!
