The Cool-Notes – Spend The Night (Dimitri From Paris Remixes)
Dimitri is back in the house, and anything this legend of disco re-editing touches turns to funky gold.
This time the revered remixer turns his hands to the Cool-Notes, the highly pivotal UK jazz-funk, boogie outfit. ‘Spend the Night’ was released in 1985 originally, and so to get this pair of remixes over 40 years later is a treat for all DJ’s of the disco persuasion.
Special mention to the spacious, Levan-esque dub on the flip, that’s the jam!
Franck Roger – Real Tone Classics Vol 6
Fresh from the archives of Real Tone Records, four Franck Roger cuts that serve up deep, soulful, lively house music for never ending dance floors.
‘Why Don’t You Say’ opens up with a warm, welcoming vocal house cut with Rona Ray. ‘Volt’ keeps things dubbed-out and body movin’, ‘Mister Henderson’ is a standout on the EP, presenting chops of ‘Afternoon of a Faun’ - a sample many of you will recognise from a previous Moodymann cut.
‘My Own Thing’ is loose, bumpy, and subby - just the way belike our deep house music.

‘Dubtribe (Sound System) - Sunshine’s Theme’ channels early 90’s euphoria with its M1 organ riffage, with a controlled vocal over the top making it that much more unique.
‘Max Berlin – Elle Et Moi’ feels balearic to its core, and with real disco heritage (Max Berlin is Cerrone’s brother would you believe!)
No words needed for ‘The Woodleigh Research Facility – Borderland (Andrew Weatherall Mix)’ - it’s a melancholic, New Order-esque disco driver with the almighty Weatherall name to it. Bliss.
‘Acupressure – We Are the Future (Instrumental Mix)’ plays us out with deep, dubby, piano house vibes. Mega record.
Ruf Dug – Asking For Trouble
One from the Ruffy archives! We know how popular label Pinchy & Friends label has been here at SBT, so here’s another.
Manchester’s Ruf Dug returns to Pinchy & Friends with six tracks that jump between Zouk, dub, melodic house, Balearic chug, reggaeton and plenty of stranger territory in between.
Buttoned Down kicks things off with a colourful, percussion-heavy Zouk groove, before Pomegranate Dub drops into hazy downtempo territory with a lovely horn-led melody.
Watching picks the energy back up with a slow but seriously effective chug built for the dancefloor. Another brilliantly oddball Ruf Dug record, equally at home in a warm-up, after-hours set, or somewhere by the pool.
Scarper – E-Funk / Twisty
Early DJ Support: Moxie, Grant Dell, and Saoirse, this one turns out the club.
Manchester's new vinyl-only HUMAN label launches with Scarper, a London producer known for twisting together broken beats, house, electro and leftfield club sounds.
‘E-Funk’ is a proper hybrid club weapon, jumping between 2-step, house and breaks with plenty of energy, while ‘Twisty’ pushes things further into acid basslines, bleeps and tough broken grooves.
Across nine tracks there's loads here for adventurous DJs, from early-room builders to stranger peak-time moments. A strong first statement from a new Manchester label.
