Hot off the press and into the doors of Sticky black Tarmac - here are some new bits that have the Tom2Trax seal of approval for dance and electronic:
Raymond D. Barre – Le Dogme du Podencool
This one’s for the DJ that takes that curveball, always chooses the left field grooves, and is not afraid to lead the crowd where they want to take it.
Parisian producer Raymond D. Barre lands on Terrestrial Funk with a six-track vinyl EP built around FM synthesis, electro, and acid. Slow swinging drums, squelchy bass lines, warped vocals and oddball melodies give the record a loose, wonky feel, with Broken Nose and the bell-heavy Mes Bêtes particular highlights.
Fun, strange and seriously groovy electronic music, with plenty across both sides for adventurous dancefloor DJs and home listening.
Umoja / Phil Moffa / Photay – Cult Edits 010
Super wicked edit 12 inch from the guys behind the label Multi Culti. This label offshoot takes an even more dance floor-focused approach to the left-field, psych-influenced, shamanistic world music sound that the main label is known for.
‘Bongo’ by Umoja is a thick, driving, minimal Afro-funk hybrid, whilst Phil Moffa’s ‘El Vato Gato’ takes us into more rolling, textural territory but still keeping that deep house feel.
On the flip side, ‘Golden River’ is a balearic-tinged groover, ‘Moongod’ chugs along at a hypotonic tempo, and ‘Eternal Flame’ brings up the energy with a beautiful Eastern vocal and electronic synth-woodwind lines.
Big tunes to worship the sun and mood gods to at the rave. Essential.
Al Kent with The Disco Love Orchestra – Come Back Home (Again)
Al Kent revisits one of his best-loved tracks, reworking ‘Come Back Home (Again)’ with the full Disco Love Orchestra treatment. Lush Philly-style strings and instrumentation, a huge soulful male vocal, and plenty of classic '70s dance floor energy make this a proper hands-in-the-air disco record for DJs.
Already supported by Moodymann, Groove Armada, Folamour, Horse Meat Disco and DJ Deep, it's now available on a limited dinked 7".
Steve Bug & Stefan Braatz – Circles EP
Nu Groove continue their ability to put out new music that somehow retains the essence of what the label was known for in its hey day.
‘Circles EP’, by Steve Bug & Stefan Braatz, focuses on stripped back house and acid sounds.
This EP is mega for house heads, and totally worth it for ‘Nu Acid’ on it’s own!
Coyote – Go With The Tide
Coyote return with Go With The Tide, a seven-tracker that pulls their Balearic sound into a deeper, dub-heavy space. Dreamy synths and laid-back electronics sit over weighty UK-style bass, hazy vocals, and raw, Jamaican soundsystem influences. The result is a record that moves between classic White Isle sounds, modern downtempo and dub.
Highlights are: ‘Palo Santo’ with is charming, quirky cartoon sound FX and dub atmosphere, ‘Meow Meow’, with a rugged, thick dub bass that moves hips in all directions, and ‘Phat Lip’, which sounds like the Joy Division rhythm section sans-guitar, ran through an echo pedal. Top stuff for discerning DJs.
