Fred Everything – The Lost Tapes 1998-2004
Daybreakers has been making moves this year as a label, with a string of successive releases in the deep/garage house sphere, they have been unearthing lost gems, month after month.
This time, Daybreakers link up with house legend Fred Everything, Montreal’s house-head’s house-head. Say no more.
All three tracks featured here were made during Fred Everything’s formative years, in which he established himself as a true top-tier house producer.

Tonarunur – Someone Else EP
Hell Yeah! It’s…Hell Yeah!
Another label that is quickly establishing itself as clued-up in underground electronic sounds. From ambient LPs such as Pints of Ambient Nectar, to the more club-centric, proto-boogie 12 inches like this one here by Tonarunur.
‘Someone Else EP’ opens with a funked-up title track: steady, chuggy, and glistening, it beams you right back to the early 80’s when basketball players wore Converse and kids on the street carried boom boxes. ‘Dawn’ is slower still, with a street soul feeling and completely instrumental arrangement.
On the flip side, ‘Lundur 1’ is a more cerebral take on the EP’s nostalgic sound, with blissed-out washes of synthesisers and abstract-funk bass. ‘Lundur 2’ continues the vibe with an excursion fit for a 1980’s BMW 3 series convertible and aviator sunglasses.
Exotic Gardens – Morning Dubs
After the popularity of the recent ‘Afternoon Dubs’, we thought we’d retrospectively dip back into Exotic Gardens’ back catalogue. The dub-focused solo project of Aaron Coyes, Exotic Gardens is an introspective dive into the inner realms of digi-dub.
Equal parts electronic tinkering and traditional dub desk riffing, Morning Dubs provides a cleaner, more ‘pre-noon’ palette of digital dub music versus Afternoon Dubs’ darker take on reggae’s warped step brother.
Stick this one on your hi-fi to start a day-long listening session and it’ll get the ears warmed up nicely and relax the body ready for sublime sonic signals.
