And with the August bank holiday over and done with, it feels like we finally look forward to the Autumn ahead. However, we still have some warm-ish, long-ish days ahead of us for listening, dancing, and DJing.

Hopefully everyone had a great bank holiday, I know I did at the Red Laser BBQ at The Carlton Club - a top day and night party organised by a top crew! All night dancing did take place, nevertheless, we look ahead to the next party, the next dance floor, and ultimately, the next bag of records.

Mac Seldom - Twenty Twenty Three

From raucous club bangers that’ll have you punching the air above you with elation, to low-slung, heads-down bass creepers on the b side - the return release from Me Me Me after a hiatus is made for club dwellers. 

Mac Seldom, hailing from the North East, has had a string of stellar releases already (on Skream’s Of Unsound Mind, and Scuba’s Hotflush Recordings), in which he has shaped his ‘house-not-house’ style of rhythmic, percussive, music.

DJ Alone Again – Orbital Constructs

WOLF Music can’t miss these days. Fans of a certain deep, bumping, groovy house music sound will not be left wanting with this latest release.

DJ Alone Again drops this four tracker that feels like it’s straight out of the early Guidance Recordings catalogue.

Freedom of House leads with a house-focused male spoken word monologue, over a rolling, deep beat. State of Flux takes things right into the heart of deeper territory, with a slower tempo, a smattering of congas, and long, tape-warped Juno chords.

Horizontal Patterns lifts the energy with a female vocal and xylophone to match the snappier pace, and closer ‘In Your Orbit’ again heads into the depths of flute-led underwater house, feeling like a unearthed late 90’s Larry Heard track.

Dim City Volume 1 (Juicy Boy)

M.A.D Records have done it again: a neatly packaged, dance floor-forward, nostalgic take on house music. All pressed onto black wax for our listening pleasure.

Dim City returns with another dose of quirky, groove-led house, blending deep rhythms, acid touches and jackin’ beats into a sound that's full of personality. In true M.A.D. fashion, these tracks keep things raw, playful and packed with character.

Comb Versions - Rip

When a classic track gets a rework, it’s always a nervy moment. Will it turn out great? Will it flop? Will I be able to enjoy the original again if either of the above happen? Well luckily Comb Versions don’t disappoint.

This pair of Rip it Up reworks don’t just do Orange Juice justice, they pay homage to the classic track in a fresh electronic boogie fashion. It’s got inklings of street soul, 80’s boogie, and balearic shimmering keys. This one will be popular.

Unknown – Blinded

Fans of The Streets look no further.

Digwah returns with another EP of groove-led tech house, combining carefully chosen samples with rolling drums and plenty of dance floor energy. Built for modern club sets, these tracks strike the perfect balance between underground grooves and peak-time impact.

A solid release for DJs looking for fresh, stripped-back house with plenty of drive.

Tino - Super Hot EP

MAD are back at it again, and they can do no wrong. The latest artist to grace the black wax of Make A Dance’s 12-inch discs is Tino. 

Playful, jacking, and acid-tinged, it’s classic MAD material through and through, and it’s no surprise that the likes of Dr Banana, Eris Drew, and Moxie are getting behind the release. 

Although a near-flawless four tracker, ’Rock Ya Body’ is a highlight, with it’s sonically-fresh merging of an African vocal and proto-house bass line. 

A must grab for lovers of authentic, raw house music!

Orange Shadow – M25

3 euphoric early 90’s rave / house jams beefed up for the modern age. A seasoned raver’s ear can identify the Orbital source material here, with that extra padding and low end in these modern club cuts.

BRS – Time to Shuff EP

UK deep house pioneers BRS (British Rhythm Services) have been in the ears of house music fans recently with WOLF Music’s re-release of Spring Dom. To follow on from that and keep the retrospective vibe going, label Situationism has rereleased their debut EP, 2000’s ‘Time To Shuff’

Audibly pleasing, with all the clanks and snaps in the right places, this EP is house music done masterfully. Highlights such as Dave on Guitar show just how BRS blend jazz melodies with thick house bass and street-vocal samples.
