DALGA: A Selection of 80’s Pop Oddities from Turkey is a compilation of rare Turkish pop and dance recordings from the 1980s, compiled by Istanbul-based beat maker and digger Grup Ses.

The collection focuses on a period when drum machines, samplers and synthesisers became increasingly central to Turkish studio production. Some artists chased the contemporary global pop sound, while others fused electronic production with Arabesque or Anatolian pop traditions.

Six of the nine tracks originally appeared only on rare cassette releases, making DALGA both a historical survey and a recovery project for overlooked corners of 1980s Turkish popular music.

The result is an unusual and vibrant snapshot of a rapidly changing studio culture, moving between synth-pop, electronic dance music and locally rooted forms.
