Ghanaian Music In The Digital Age, 1979–1988 (Volume 4), the fourth and final instalment in its series exploring a transformative period in Ghanaian popular music. Across ten selections, the compilation traces the movement from deep, hypnotic highlife into the electronic productions that became associated with Burger Highlife, as musicians brought funk, disco and boogie influences into conversation with Ghanaian musical traditions. The result documents a period when new technology and changing circumstances were reshaping dance music both inside Ghana and across its diaspora.

The collection brings together recordings by Rex Omar, Nat Fredua, CST Amankwah, Baffour Kyei & Great Africans Band, Chief Kofi Sammy & Okukuseku No 2 and the Abibifo Dance Band of Ghana, led by bassist Ralph Karikari. Kalita's selection moves between rhythmic dancefloor material, deeper highlife and pioneering digital productions, with a particular focus on recordings that have remained difficult to find for decades. Rather than treating the electronic turn as a break with highlife, the compilation highlights the continuity between established Ghanaian forms and the synthesizers, drum machines and international club sounds entering musicians' palettes during the late 1970s and 1980s.

The wider story is inseparable from the social conditions of the period. Political instability, economic hardship, military regimes and curfews contributed to many Ghanaian musicians seeking opportunities in Europe and the United States. Working abroad, artists combined highlife roots with the contemporary sounds and equipment around them, including digital synthesizers such as the Yamaha DX7 and programmed rhythms. This cross-pollination helped shape the sound commonly described as Burger Highlife: distinctly Ghanaian music transformed by migration, technology and the global dancefloor.

This edition is pressed as a double LP and housed in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves. The package expands on the music with artist stories, rare interviews, archival photographs and detailed liner notes, giving additional context to the recordings and the people behind them.
