Toronto Hustle & Sean Roman – Social Narcotics
Wolf Music might just be my favourite label of the moment. With back-to-back stellar releases, this imprint channels deep, bumping house that touches on US deepness and European euphoria in equal measure.
This particular record, by Toronto Hustle & Sean Roman, takes a deeper turn, with the opening rework by Byron The Aquarius filling out the low end with rumbling, groove-laden bass and swung beat. Nick Holder & Tyron Solomon’s Trackheadz remix of ‘Social Narcotics’ feels like a highly capable warm-up track, with enough intrigue and mystique to pique interest on the dance floor for things to come.
On the flip, the ‘Main’ mix is the standout here, combining the deepness of the A side with percussive drums and curated drops, punctuated by spoken vocals. Club-ready tackle. ‘Late Night Dub’ amps up the percussion and dubbed-out delay to theatrically fill out the mix, whilst retaining enough of that low end to keep it dance floor ready.
Essential.
