Tony Allen & Hugh Masekela - Rejoice (White/Pink Splatter Vinyl)

Rejoice is a collaboration between Tony Allen, legendary drummer and co-founder of Afrobeat, and South African jazz trumpeter Hugh Masekela. The pair first met in the 1970s through their respective associations with Fela Kuti and later recorded together when their touring schedules coincided in the UK in 2010.

Following Masekela’s passing in 2018, Tony Allen and producer Nick Gold returned to the original tapes with the blessing and participation of Masekela’s estate, completing the album in London in 2019. The resulting record brings together Afrobeat and South African jazz, supported by musicians including Tom Herbert, Joe Armon-Jones, Mutale Chashi and Steve Williamson.

Issued in celebration of the 40th anniversary of World Circuit Records, this edition is pressed on 140g orange, white and pink splatter vinyl and includes a printed inner sleeve.
