The Upsetters – Upsetters 14 Dub Black Board Jungle
The Upsetters - Upsetters 14 Dub Black Board Jungle returns in a limited edition pressing of one of the foundational albums of dub. First issued in Jamaica in the early 1970s and produced by Lee “Scratch” Perry, the record captures the point where studio manipulation became an art form in its own right, with King Tubby’s mixing pushing bass, drums, echo, reverb and space to the foreground.
Built from rhythm tracks recorded by The Upsetters between 1970 and 1972, the album turns familiar reggae foundations into hypnotic, psychedelic versions. Vocals appear and disappear, drum patterns are isolated, basslines dominate the mix and fragments of sound spiral through spring reverb and tape delay, creating the immersive approach that would help define dub for generations to come.
This SRD-exclusive edition is limited to 500 copies and includes an exclusive art print, embossed sleeve and an 8-page 12-inch booklet featuring liner notes by Lee “Scratch” Perry biographer David Katz plus an interview with Adrian Sherwood.
