The Nerves - Best Collection

Third Man Records presents The Nerves - Best Collection, a definitive 2LP survey assembled in close collaboration with surviving members Paul Collins and Peter Case, together with Jack Lee’s daughter Cynthia. Rather than relying on later-generation copies, vinyl rips or CD sources, the project returned to the original recordings wherever possible to present these songs with greater clarity and authority.

The tapes were mastered and remastered by Warren Defever at Third Man Mastering in Detroit. That source work is central to the release: several tracks appear here in versions that have effectively not been heard since the day they were recorded. The collection therefore works as more than a standard anthology, gathering key songs while also restoring the sound of one of the defining groups in American power pop.

Across four sides, the set includes Hanging On The Telephone, When You Find Out, Working Too Hard, Walking Out on Love, One Way Ticket, Paper Dolls, I Don’t Fit In and many more. The tracklist captures the sharp economy, melodic urgency and stripped-down rock energy that made The Nerves so influential well beyond their brief original lifespan. Their songs would echo through later punk, new wave and guitar pop, with Hanging On The Telephone becoming especially well known through Blondie’s subsequent version.

This edition is available in two vinyl variants: an Indies-only Red Marble pressing and a standard Black Vinyl edition. Both use the newly prepared masters and present the full Best Collection across two LPs. For listeners interested in 1970s power pop, punk-adjacent guitar music and the roots of later indie rock, this is an unusually well-sourced and carefully assembled archival release.
