The Avalanches – No Bad Memories

The Avalanches – No Bad Memories is the highly anticipated fourth album from the Australian electronic group, arriving in two limited 180g double-vinyl editions. Built around the strange way advertising, branded technology and commercial sounds become tangled with personal memory, the album turns jingles, start-up tones and fragments of consumer culture into source material for the group’s distinctive sample-based approach.

Robbie Chater describes the idea as closely linked to the nature of sampling itself: once a forgotten sound is uncovered, it opens a path into where that sound came from, what it once meant and how it became embedded in everyday life. That curiosity sits at the centre of No Bad Memories. The record treats nostalgia with both affection and suspicion, exploring how childhood memories can feel deeply personal even when they are shaped by products, advertisements and proprietary sounds designed by corporations.

Musically, the project continues The Avalanches’ long fascination with collage, discovery and transformation. Rather than using found audio as decoration, the band treats it as structural material, building tracks from fragments that carry their own histories. The result is a record concerned with memory at both an emotional and sonic level: familiar sounds are pulled out of context, recombined and made to suggest something new.

The album also features a wide range of collaborators, including Jamie xx, Karen O, Nikki Nair, Jessy Lanza and Prentiss, helping expand the record’s palette while keeping the focus on The Avalanches’ singular production style. This vinyl release is available in two limited colours. The all-partners edition is pressed on yellow 180g heavyweight vinyl, while the Indies/HMV/D2C edition is pressed on blue 180g heavyweight vinyl. Both versions come as 2LP sets in gatefold sleeves with printed disc sleeves and a booklet.

No Bad Memories is designed as a physical, immersive listening experience as much as a collection of songs. With its concept rooted in memory, sampling and the emotional residue of commercial sound, it is a natural continuation of The Avalanches’ fascination with the hidden life of recorded material, presented here in two collectible limited-edition vinyl configurations.
