Swim Deep – Hum
Swim Deep – Hum is the fifth studio album from Birmingham indie favourites Swim Deep, marking a bold and emotionally charged new chapter for one of the UK’s most enduring alternative bands.
Released via Submarine Cat Records, Hum captures a rejuvenated and heavier-sounding Swim Deep, combining shimmering indie rock melodies with raw emotional intensity, distorted guitars and expansive songwriting. Created following major personal and creative changes within the band, the album channels themes of family, responsibility, loss and perseverance into some of the group’s most confident and ambitious music to date.
Lead single “Pieces Of You” introduces the album’s more urgent and guitar-driven sound, balancing soaring hooks with thick walls of distortion and emotional vulnerability. Across the record, Swim Deep continue to evolve beyond the dreamy indie-pop of their earlier releases, embracing richer textures and a more expansive alternative rock approach while maintaining the melodic warmth that first made them stand out.
Written during a transformative period for frontman Austin “Ozzy” Williams — balancing fatherhood, personal loss and the realities of sustaining an independent band — Hum explores the emotional weight of adulthood while still holding onto optimism and creative ambition. Tracks such as “Broken”, “Mud”, “Such A Fool” and “In Dreams Alive” showcase a band pushing themselves creatively while remaining deeply personal and relatable.
