Skinshape - Chapman's Pool
Skinshape returns with Chapman's Pool, an album named after the bay on Dorset's Jurassic Coast near where British multi-instrumentalist William Dorey grew up. Recorded around a busy touring schedule, the record reconnects with the broad musical vocabulary that has shaped the Skinshape project while reflecting Dorey's accumulated experience as a songwriter, producer and studio musician.
Dorey's work under the Skinshape name is rooted in traditional recording methods and draws from a wide range of influences. On Chapman's Pool, those reference points include spaghetti western soundtracks, trip-hop, 1960s and 1970s Ethiopian jazz and 1980s South African bubblegum, alongside the funk, soul, reggae, psychedelic rock, African music and folk elements long associated with his catalogue.
The eleven-track album includes the singles The Blade of a Knife, Take It As It Is and Lover. The record moves from the title track and Spirit through Underwater, Together We Win and El Ultimo Hombre, before closing with Last Dance In London and Bye Bye Addis. Released by Lewis Recordings, this edition is the standard black vinyl LP.
