Mom Jeans - Sweet Tooth (Raiders Coloured Vinyl)

Mom Jeans – Sweet Tooth is presented here on limited standard-weight Raiders coloured vinyl for independent retail. Arriving after the breakthrough of Puppy Love, the album finds the Berkeley band widening their sound without abandoning the humour, vulnerability and immediate hooks that made their earlier records so easy to embrace. It is a brighter, more polished set of songs, but the personality remains unmistakably Mom Jeans.

Sweet Tooth was recorded at The Barber Shop Studios in New Jersey with producer Brett Romnes, whose work with The Front Bottoms, Oso Oso and Dogleg made him a natural fit. The sessions gave the band a complete top-to-bottom studio experience and the freedom to pursue a level of detail that had previously been out of reach. Guest vocals from Tyler Povanda of Save Face and Kory Gregory of Prince Daddy & the Hyena add extra colour without interrupting the album’s cohesive feel.

The result is thirteen tracks that lean into pleasure, immediacy and the appeal of a big chorus. “Something Sweet” sets out the album’s tone, while “What’s Up?”, “Hippo In The Water”, “White Trash Millionaire” and “Sugar Rush” keep the energy high. Elsewhere, “Luv L8r”, “Crybaby (On the Phone)” and “Tie Dye Acid Trip” balance playful titles with writing that is sincere about uncertainty, relationships and the desire to enjoy life before it passes by. The closing pair of “Ten Minutes” and “Teeth” complete a sequence designed to reward both loud communal listening and close attention.

Songwriter Eric Butler has described the album as a move beyond the stylistic box shaped by favourites such as Modern Baseball, The Front Bottoms and Joyce Manor. That change does not erase the band’s emo roots; it gives them more colours to work with. Guitars feel broader, vocal arrangements land more cleanly and pop instincts move to the foreground.

Sweet Tooth embraces the idea of taking the good things when they arrive instead of treating enjoyment as something that must be earned through suffering. This Indies-exclusive Raiders coloured pressing suits that outlook perfectly: vivid, playful and made to be handled rather than hidden away.
