Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank

We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank finds Modest Mouse expanding their distinctive indie-rock sound without smoothing away its eccentricities. Released in 2007, the album introduced former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr into the group's recorded line-up, bringing another musical perspective to Isaac Brock's restless songwriting. This edition presents the album across two vinyl records.

The fourteen-song set includes Dashboard, Missed the Boat, Little Motel and the extended Spitting Venom. Bright hooks and more elaborate arrangements sit alongside jagged guitars, rhythmic shifts and Brock's unmistakable delivery. The contrast gives the record its character: accessible melodies are never far from a sudden change in mood or an unexpected turn in the music.

Recorded with producer Dennis Herring at Sweet Tea Studio in Oxford, Mississippi, the album also features backing vocals from the Shins' James Mercer on Florida, Missed the Boat and We've Got Everything. It is an expansive collection that connects the band's alternative-rock roots with a broader musical palette. Supplied through Lasgo under catalogue number 82876861391, this double-vinyl edition carries barcode 0828768613917 and a release date of 20 March 2007.
