Michael Hurley - First Songs
First Songs is the 1964 debut album from Michael Hurley, the singular American songwriter whose six-decade career made him a foundational figure for generations of folk and indie musicians. Recorded for Folkways, the album presents Hurley alone with voice and guitar and introduces many of the themes, characters and offbeat humour that would recur throughout his work.
Tracks including “The Werewolf Song”, “Blue Mountain”, “The Tea Song” and “I Like My Wine” balance gentle melancholy, eccentric storytelling and a distinctly personal strain of folk music. This vinyl edition is presented in Folkways' classic tip-on sleeve.
