Mew - Frengers returns to vinyl in this black-vinyl Music On Vinyl edition, complete with a printed inner sleeve and 4-page booklet.

Originally released in 2003, Frengers is the third studio album by Danish band Mew and the record that brought them major commercial attention. Its title combines the words “friend” and “stranger”: a “frenger” is someone who is not quite a friend but not quite a stranger, an idea that suits an album whose music constantly balances intimacy with a grand, widescreen sense of scale.

The record moves between indie rock, dreamlike pop and progressive arrangements without losing its melodic centre. “Am I Wry? No”, “156” and “Snow Brigade” establish the band's blend of sharp dynamics, layered guitars and Jonas Bjerre's distinctive high-register vocals, while later tracks such as “She Spider” and the expansive “Comforting Sounds” push toward a more cinematic finish.

Frengers also features notable guest vocals. Swedish singer Stina Nordenstam appears on “Her Voice Is Beyond Her Years”, while “Symmetry” features Georgia Becky Jarrett, who was 13 years old at the time of recording. Those collaborations add further texture to an album already known for combining cerebral arrangements with accessible songwriting.
