Marco Benevento - Houdini b/w Miss Neptune
Big Crown Records brings two standout tracks from Marco Benevento’s Glera album to 7-inch vinyl with Houdini b/w Miss Neptune. The pairing shows two very different sides of Benevento’s playing and production, moving from an immediate dancefloor cut on the A-side to a laid-back reggae-influenced mood on the flip.
Houdini opens with punchy drums and an earworm piano phrase before steadily building in energy. The track is designed around momentum: clipped rhythmic details, bright keyboard hooks and a sense of controlled chaos that highlights Benevento’s feel both as a player and as a producer. It is the more extroverted side of the single, built for DJs and rooms where a strong opening groove matters.
Miss Neptune takes the opposite route. Inspired by reggae and centred on a much more spacious arrangement, it features Elizabeth Steiner on harp. The track was co-produced by Nick Movshon, who also plays drums and bass, leaving Benevento and Steiner to trade melodic lines across the groove. The result is warm, unhurried and atmospheric, with the harp giving the track an unusual texture without disturbing its relaxed pulse.
Together, the two sides make a concise snapshot of the range found on Glera: rhythmic, melodic and open to unexpected combinations of instruments and styles. This 7-inch is especially suited to listeners of Big Crown’s soul and groove catalogue, as well as DJs looking for a pairing that moves cleanly between upbeat funk energy and deeper reggae-informed mood music.
