Lighthouse Family – Postcards From Heaven returns on high-quality 180g black vinyl, bringing one of the defining British pop-soul albums of the late 1990s back to the format. Originally issued by Wildcard and Polydor in October 1997, the record reached number two on the UK Albums Chart, remained on the chart for more than a year and produced five Top 30 singles. This Proper Records edition was released on 29 August 2025.

Following the slow-building success of their debut Ocean Drive, vocalist Tunde Baiyewu and songwriter-keyboard player Paul Tucker faced the challenge of proving that the group’s warm, melodic sound could connect just as strongly a second time. Working again with producer Mike Peden, they delivered an album with an immediate sense of confidence. Part of the recording took place at Jacques Loussier’s Miraval Studios in the South of France, and the music carries an easy brightness without losing the reflective quality at the heart of Lighthouse Family’s appeal.

“Raincloud” opens the album with an uplifting groove and became a UK Top 10 hit before the LP arrived. “High” followed in early 1998, reaching number four and matching the peak achieved by “Lifted”. Further singles “Lost In Space”, “Question Of Faith” and “Postcard From Heaven” helped make the album a familiar soundtrack to the period. Heard together, these songs show why the duo’s blend of polished pop, soul and adult contemporary songwriting travelled far beyond a single release cycle.

The album’s quieter tracks are just as important. “Once In A Blue Moon”, “Let It All Change”, “Sun In The Night”, “When I Was Younger” and “Restless” give the sequence emotional shape, balancing optimism with uncertainty and nostalgia. Baiyewu’s measured vocal delivery keeps even the largest choruses grounded, while Tucker’s writing favours clarity, melody and genuine warmth. Mike Peden’s production provides detail and scale without overwhelming the songs.

Presented as a single 180g LP, this black-vinyl pressing follows the original ten-track album sequence across two sides. It is an ideal replacement for a worn original, a strong introduction for a new listener, and an easy recommendation for collections spanning classic British pop, soul and R&B. Nearly three decades after its first appearance, Postcards From Heaven still sounds generous, polished and immediately recognisable.
