Lady Jane - Here I Am Baby

Here I Am Baby is the only studio album by Detroit soul and funk vocalist Lady Jane, originally recorded at Studio A in Dearborn Heights and privately released in 1980.

The album remained extremely obscure for decades, with copies lost in a flood and the master tapes unavailable until they were ultimately returned to Jane Brice. Their recovery enabled this new Athens Of The North reissue to be mastered directly from the original tapes.

Across seven tracks, Jane moves between soul, funk and disco, from the title track to heavier cuts such as Never Lived in the Ghetto and Space Flight. The closing She’s A Star, the only song on the album written by Jane herself, carries particular emotional weight and reflects themes of survival and self-belief.

Newly mastered from the recovered tapes, this edition brings a rare Detroit private-press soul album back into circulation.
