Kraftwerk’s Autobahn is one of the pivotal albums in the history of electronic music, a record that helped transform experimental studio practice into a new form of modern pop.

Originally released in 1974, it captured the Düsseldorf group at the point where their avant-garde roots began to crystallise into the precise, melodic and technological aesthetic that would define their later work.

The title track occupies an entire side of the original album and turns a motorway journey into a hypnotic electronic travelogue. Repetitive rhythms, synthesised textures and processed vocals create a piece that is both playful and radical.

Autobahn became an international breakthrough and an enormous influence on synth-pop, techno, electro, hip-hop and countless forms of electronic music that followed.
