Kavinsky - Reborn

Kavinsky - Reborn returns as a black 2LP repress through Record Makers. The album marked Kavinsky’s long-awaited second full-length statement, arriving nine years after Outrun and after the enormous reach of “Nightcall”. Rather than rushing to reproduce that success, Kavinsky stepped away, allowed the project to develop at its own pace and eventually returned to recording at the late Philippe Zdar’s Motorbass studio in Paris.

The title reflects that deliberate reset. Where Outrun embraced a compressed, high-speed electronic aesthetic, Reborn was conceived as something broader, more musical and more timeless. Kavinsky gave melodies more room, experimented with instruments and hardware, and allowed collaborators to occupy more space within the arrangements. His familiar cinematic synth-pop identity remains intact, but the sound is larger and less constrained by the template that had made the debut so immediately recognisable.

Across the album, 808 drum machines and Jupiter synthesizers sit alongside dramatic string writing, electro-funk machinery, saxophone and vocal performances. The references range from 1980s Japanese anime music to classic French soundtrack composition, while the songs circle themes of love, death and the future of romance. Rather than simply recreating retro imagery, Kavinsky uses those references to construct his own vision of pop culture: nostalgic in its materials but pointed toward an imagined future.

This repress presents the complete twelve-track album across two black LPs, including Pulsar, Renegade, Trigger, Zenith, Vigilante and closing track Horizon. It is a substantial, cinematic electronic record that expands the world Kavinsky established on Outrun rather than simply repeating it.
