JAŸ-Z - Reasonable Doubt (30th Anniversary Edition)
JAŸ-Z - Reasonable Doubt (30th Anniversary Edition) celebrates three decades of one of hip-hop’s defining debut albums. First released independently through Roc-A-Fella Records on 25 June 1996, Reasonable Doubt introduced a hungry, technically precise rapper whose writing transformed street-level detail, ambition and moral tension into cinematic music. Built around smooth jazz samples, nocturnal production and intricate wordplay, the album established JAŸ-Z as one of the genre’s most distinctive lyricists.
The record’s opening run remains formidable. “Can’t Knock The Hustle”, featuring Mary J. Blige, pairs polished soul with measured confidence, while “Politics As Usual” and “Brooklyn’s Finest” sharpen the album’s New York perspective. The latter’s collaboration with The Notorious B.I.G. became an immediate landmark. “Dead Presidents II”, “Feelin’ It” and “D’evils” continue the balance between luxury, danger and self-examination that defines the project.
Later tracks broaden that world without weakening its focus. “22 Two’s” demonstrates JAŸ-Z’s verbal control, “Can I Live” offers one of the album’s most enduring meditations on risk and survival, and “Ain’t No N***a” features Foxy Brown in an early showcase. “Friend Or Foe”, “Coming Of Age”, “Cashmere Thoughts”, “Bring It On” and “Regrets” complete the original sequence, while this anniversary edition adds “Can I Live II” and the “Can’t Knock the Hustle (Fool’s Paradise Remix)” featuring Meli’sa Morgan.
Thirty years on, Reasonable Doubt retains its authority because the writing is as psychologically detailed as it is technically accomplished. The album helped elevate mafioso rap into a form capable of holding contradiction: success and anxiety, loyalty and suspicion, calculation and regret. Its production remains elegant and hard-edged, giving the verses room to carry the narrative weight.
This release is available as one product with two audiophile-grade double-vinyl variants: an exclusive White 2LP edition with alternate artwork and custom insert, and a classic heavy-grade Black 2LP edition. Both include the complete anniversary tracklist. Issued through Diggers Factory, this is a pre-order for release on 28 August 2026.
