Jamie Finlay - Sun Dogs

Sun Dogs is the debut album from composer, songwriter and producer Jamie Finlay, bringing together electric soul, spiritual jazz and psychedelia in a deeply layered set concerned with love, loss, grief and resilience.

The album ranges widely while retaining a strong ensemble identity. Its opening material draws on spiritual-jazz influences, Staring at the Sun leans toward Ethio-jazz, Family strips the sound back into psychedelic soul, and Parhelion moves through off-kilter jazz fusion before later tracks touch broken beat and expansive orchestral soul.

Recorded between 2022 and 2023, Sun Dogs features a core group including keyboardist Matt Steele, drummer Erroll Rollins and singer and multi-instrumentalist Ellen Beth Abdi of A Certain Ratio. Further collaborators include Caitlin LM and Kemani Anderson of Secret Night Gang, with additional horn and vocal contributions across the record.

Mixed by Finlay with engineer Phil Kirby, the album is an ambitious Wah Wah 45s release that links contemporary UK soul and jazz with psychedelic and electronic production ideas.
