Holy Tongue - Basilikum
On Basilikum, Valentina Magaletti, Al Wootton and Susumu Mukai create expansive rhythmic music that moves freely through dub, trance, free improvisation and cinematic psychedelia.
Recorded through a series of improvisations in the Swiss Alps and London, the album is built around vintage drum machines and instinctive interplay. Dub techniques meet ritual percussion, hypnotic pulse and spacious, Popol Vuh-like landscapes.
The trio treats playing, recording, editing and transformation as parts of the same creative process, resulting in music that shifts continuously between meditation and propulsion, intimacy and scale.
