High Rise - My Baby's Gone

My Baby's Gone collects rare mid-1980s material from Chicago duo High Rise, the partnership of Harry Malone and Tony Poe. Recorded around 1985, the music moves through boogie, soul and disco with the smooth, floating quality prized by collectors of private and independent US soul.

Athens Of The North's edition expands the High Rise story by also drawing on material connected with Malone's earlier group The Elusions, whose scarce Chicago seven-inch releases have themselves become difficult collector pieces.

Across seven tracks, the set balances dancefloor-ready grooves with slower soul and extended arrangements, capturing an independent Chicago sound from a period when boogie and modern soul were rapidly evolving.
