Happy Mondays – Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches returns in a comprehensive five-LP box set celebrating one of the defining albums of the Madchester era. Originally released in 1990, the record captured the collision of indie rock, acid-house rhythm, funk, club culture and Northern attitude that made Happy Mondays both a chart force and a cultural phenomenon. Songs such as “Kinky Afro”, “Loose Fit” and “Step On” remain immediately recognisable, while the album’s loose-limbed production and irreverent character continue to influence artists across alternative and electronic music.

For this expanded edition, the original audio has been remastered from the Factory Records master tapes. LP1 presents the complete remastered album, preserving its classic ten-track sequence. LP2 brings together the Madchester Rave On and Hallelujah material, including “Holy Ghost”, “Clap Your Hands”, “Rave On” and key club mixes. LPs 3 and 4 document the band live at Elland Road in 1991 through the Baby Big Head Bootleg, capturing the swagger, chaos and communal release of Happy Mondays at their commercial peak.

The fifth record collects classic and newly commissioned remixes. Familiar versions such as “Step On (Stuff It In Mix)”, “Kinky Groovy Afro Remix” and “Loose Fit (Perfecto 12” Mix)” sit alongside edits and remixes by Daniel Avery, Shadow Child, Anna Prior, Paul Oakenfold and Ewan Pearson. Together, the five records trace the original album’s movement from studio statement to rave culture, huge live performance and continuing dancefloor reinterpretation.

The box also contains a 60-page hardback book with new essays from James Brown and the Central Station design team, a fold-out A2 tour poster and a Madchester slipmat.
