Friendly Fires - Dig Deeper

Friendly Fires - Dig Deeper is the fourth studio album from the British indie-dance band and their first full-length statement after an extended period spent developing new material. Released through LAB Records, the album takes its title as a guiding idea: Ed Macfarlane and Edd Gibson return to the musical qualities that have long defined Friendly Fires while pushing further into the emotional and creative reasons they continue to make music together.

The record was shaped by a renewed sense of self-reliance after years of writing and experimentation. Friendly Fires' familiar ingredients remain present — euphoric dance rhythms, bright melodic hooks, falsetto vocals and percussion-heavy grooves — but the band describe the material as some of their most ambitious work. Sweeping choruses sit alongside hypnotic rhythmic passages, electronic textures and the kind of kinetic pop arrangements that have always connected their indie roots to club culture.

Macfarlane has described making something honest and releasing it in the hope that it connects with people as a leap of faith. That idea gives context to an album that is both outward-facing and reflective. The eleven-song sequence opens with “Lose All Your Friends” before moving through “Leap of Faith,” “Gold Dust,” “Magnetic,” the title track and “Orbital.” Side B continues with “Silver Lining,” “Cuban Heels,” “SYOTOS,” “Catherine Wheel” and “Wear It Out.”

This release is offered here in two vinyl editions: the standard black vinyl pressing and a solid cream white vinyl edition exclusive to RSD stores and HMV. The separate Dinked pressing is not included in this listing. Both versions carry the complete album across a single LP. Dig Deeper finds Friendly Fires returning with a record designed around movement, melody and connection, while reflecting the confidence gained from taking the time to decide exactly what they wanted their next chapter to sound like.
