Fleur - Jour D'ete (Black Vinyl)
Fleur returns for one final burst of irresistible French-language garage pop with Jour D'ete, a four-song 7-inch EP packed with sparkling melodies, vintage attitude and effortless summer charm. Written by Mark ten Hoor of The Kryng, who also shaped Fleur's 2024 album Fille Sauvage, the release distils everything that makes her music so distinctive: classic yé-yé style, punchy garage-rock energy and a playful pop sensibility that feels instantly familiar yet completely alive.
The title track, “Jour D'ete,” is a breezy, up-tempo celebration of summer, youth and falling in love. Bright guitars and an infectious rhythm give it the feel of a lost 1960s radio favourite, while Fleur's poised vocal keeps the song stylish and direct. “Je Ne Veux Pas De Toi” changes the mood with a stomping beat and bongo-driven chorus, delivering a sharp dismissal with plenty of personality.
“Le Temps Nous Le Dira” is arguably the EP's secret centrepiece: a beautifully catchy, slightly melancholy song powered by chiming 12-string guitar. It balances wistfulness and forward momentum in exactly the way the best garage-pop singles do. Closing track “Qu'est-ce Que Je Fais de Mal” slows the pace into something more delicate, moody and dreamlike, ending the record on a quietly haunting note.
Together, the four tracks form a perfectly sequenced farewell statement from Fleur. Fans of Françoise Hardy, France Gall, 1960s beat music, modern garage pop and Soundflat's lovingly curated catalogue will find plenty to adore here. Compact, colourful and made for repeated plays, Jour D'ete is a heavenly slice of yé-yé-inspired vinyl that sounds equally at home in a vintage singles box or beside today's best independent pop releases.
