Fila Brazillia - Black Market Gardening

Black Market Gardening is the third full-length album from Fila Brazillia, the Hull-based collaboration between Steve Cobby and David McSherry. The duo became known for bending the boundaries between deep house, downtempo, breaks, ambient and funk, creating electronic music with a loose, exploratory studio approach.

Across nine tracks, Black Market Gardening moves through hazy trip hop, cosmic synthesiser lines, brisk breakbeats, funky guitar figures and touches of drum and bass. Samples and live instrumentation are woven together so closely that the boundaries between them often disappear, giving the record a tactile and highly individual character.

The album stands as a creative high point in the Fila Brazillia catalogue and reflects the adventurous spirit of 1990s UK electronic music while remaining distinctive enough to resist easy classification. Their wider career also included more than sixty remixes for artists including Radiohead, Busta Rhymes and Lamb.

This 30th anniversary edition returns the album to vinyl for the first time since 2001. It is available on 180 gram black vinyl and as a limited translucent yellow pressing of 250 individually numbered copies.
