Edena Gardens – Quintessence

Edena Gardens – Quintessence is the trio’s most expansive work to date: a monumental double-vinyl statement lasting more than seventy-nine minutes and structured in four parts around the ancient alchemical process of transformation.

Rather than presenting fantasy for its own sake, Quintessence treats transformation as a physical and geological force. The album moves through six extended compositions with a sense of deep time, weight and gradual change. Its music is patient and immersive, allowing each section to stretch, mutate and settle into a new atmosphere. The result is a slow, deliberate journey through psychedelic rock, instrumental exploration and heavy, spacious improvisation.

The record was captured by Jonas Munk of Causa Sui, whose natural production keeps the trio grounded and present. Jakob Skøtt drives the music with measured, powerful drumming while adding sparse, ghostly processing to the mix. Nicklas Sørensen of Papir shapes angular guitar lines across the deep foundation of Martin Rude’s bass and baritone strings. Together they create music that feels both carefully constructed and open to unpredictable movement.

The visual presentation is an important part of the release. Martin Rude created the original artwork across four panels, one for each vinyl side, with colouring by Jakob Skøtt. The design mirrors the scale and structure of the music, making the 2LP edition a substantial physical object as well as an ambitious listening experience.

Tracks such as “Nigredo”, “Calcified Bone & Weathered Stone”, “Into Citrinitas” and “The Vermillion Quintessence” trace the album’s passage through darkness, matter and transformation. This is music that rewards uninterrupted listening and repeated returns, with details gradually emerging from its dense but unhurried sound.
