Dexys Midnight Runners – LOVE (Yellow Vinyl)
LOVE is a deeply personal new collection from Dexys Midnight Runners, built from scenes, memories and reckonings drawn from Kevin Rowland’s life. Songs begun decades ago sit beside recent writing, creating a record about family, friendship, romance, ageing and the many forms that love can take. Rather than presenting conventional pop love songs, the album looks at the small moments that reveal the larger emotional sweep of a life.
The material ranges from the Irish immigrant childhood remembered in My Life In England Pt. 1 to a letter to Rowland’s grandchildren in You’re Alright, the early glow of a relationship in I Want To Be Holding You Next Christmas, and the experience of time spent with a dying parent in Once A Man, Twice A Child. Old Love considers relationships later in life, while the album as a whole gradually revealed its central theme during the writing process.
LOVE also marks the first album issued under the full Dexys Midnight Runners name since 1985’s Don’t Stand Me Down. Rowland is joined by long-time collaborators Sean Read, Mike Timothy and Jim Paterson, with string arrangements by Brian Irving. Production comes from Belfast musician and producer David Holmes, a lifelong admirer of the band whose involvement adds another layer to the album’s sense of continuity and renewal.
Available to independent retailers on yellow vinyl, this edition presents LOVE as a vivid late-career statement: intimate, reflective and emotionally direct, yet unmistakably shaped by the collaborative identity of Dexys Midnight Runners.
