Damon Locks & D-Composed - Dawning
Dawning brings together Chicago multidisciplinary artist Damon Locks and Black chamber music collective D-Composed for a striking collaboration recorded live at The Land School, the Rebuild Foundation headquarters on Dorchester Avenue in Chicago. The project captures the pair during their inaugural creative partnership in residence with International Anthem.
The album combines Locks’ live sampling, beat knowledge and spoken-word delivery with D-Composed’s contemporary approach to the Black string ensemble. The result moves between chamber music, experimental electronics, rhythm and improvisation, creating a sound that feels both immediate and carefully sculpted.
Released on International Anthem as a single black-vinyl LP, Dawning features six pieces including We Stay Beginning, Jet Black Ink, Mourning Loop and Don’t Recede. A distinctive meeting point between Chicago experimental music, beat culture and modern string composition.
