Cochemea – Mitote / Dilo (7" Vinyl)
Cochemea – Mitote / Dilo is a groove-rich 7-inch release that highlights two powerful recordings rooted in collective rhythm, improvisation and soul-jazz energy. Released via Daptone Records, the single captures the percussive intensity and raw musicality that define Cochemea’s wider body of work, while presenting two tracks that each reveal a different side of his rhythmic imagination.
On the A-side, Mitote emerged during an almost 24-hour first-day recording marathon for All My Relations. Built quickly from group improvisation and featuring Sunny Jain of Red Baraat on dhol, the track is driven by a heavy backbeat and a blues-based melodic framework. The result is urgent, physical and deeply alive, balancing ecstasy and tension in a way that feels both rooted and immediate.
The B-side, Dilo, was recorded during the Ancestros Futuros sessions and left off the final album, making this release an important home for a standout performance. Structured around a rhythmic framework composed by Brian Wolfe and developed by the band, the track uses call-and-response between saxophone and percussion, accented by high bell patterns and low drum hits that give it a ritualistic, hypnotic character.
Together, these two recordings make for an essential small-format release for collectors of modern soul, spiritual jazz and rhythm-driven instrumental music. Pressed on 7-inch vinyl, Mitote / Dilo offers both immediacy and depth, with strong appeal for selectors and listeners alike.
