Ashra – New Age Of Earth (2025 Vinyl)

After an initial European release in 1976 on the Isadora label, New Age Of Earth was re-issued on Virgin Records in Summer 1977 and quickly became a beacon for electronic and what was becoming known as ambient music — some even cite its very title as helping introduce 'new age' music. This 2025 reissue faithfully replicates the original 1977 Virgin edition and is pressed on heavyweight 180g vinyl.

Recorded in Berlin between March and June 1976 by guitarist and synthesiser player Manuel Göttsching after disbanding Ash Ra Tempel, the album shifts away from space rock into a more electronic, kosmische sound.

The four compositions highlight contrasts in texture and mood: the throbbing, techno-predicting 'Sunrain', the space-age pulse of 'Ocean Of Tenderness', the surf-influenced 'Deep Distance', and the monumental 21-minute closer 'Nightdust', which crescendos into a celestial guitar solo. An essential and influential record in electronic and ambient music history, now lovingly reissued for a new generation.
