Andy Bell & Masal - Common Primitives
Common Primitives is the second collaborative album between Andy Bell, guitarist with Ride and former Oasis bassist, and Essex-based harp and synth duo Masal.
The two-record set also includes their acclaimed 2023 debut Tidal Love Numbers on vinyl for the first time. Across both records the trio move through kosmische textures, astral jazz, ambient music and Turkish folk influence, with free-jammed ideas gradually shaped into layered compositions.
The project draws inspiration from artists such as Pharoah Sanders while giving space to Özlem Simsek's harp and vocals, Andy Bell's guitar loops and the duo's exploratory electronic arrangements. The result is meditative, cinematic and richly textured.
