David Bowie - Earthling
Originally released in 1997, Earthling captures David Bowie at one of the most adventurous points of his later career. Following the experimental direction of 1. Outside, Bowie pushed further into the contemporary electronic sounds surrounding him at the time, incorporating drum & bass, jungle, techno and industrial textures into his own unmistakable songwriting.
Working closely with Reeves Gabrels and Mark Plati, Bowie fused aggressive electronic rhythms with distorted guitar, memorable melodies and a restless sense of experimentation. The album includes “Little Wonder”, “Dead Man Walking” and “I’m Afraid Of Americans”, and has become increasingly recognised as one of the most distinctive records from Bowie’s 1990s creative resurgence. A fascinating collision of rock and late-90s electronic culture from an artist still determined to move forward rather than revisit the past.
