Blur - Parklife
Parklife brings together the wit, melody and restless musical variety that made Blur one of the defining British bands of the 1990s. Originally released in 1994, their third studio album includes Girls & Boys, End of a Century, To the End and the title track, with its unmistakable spoken-word appearance from Phil Daniels. This catalogue edition presents the album on double vinyl.
Across its sixteen songs, Parklife moves between dance-influenced pop, angular guitar music and quieter, more reflective songwriting. The exuberance of the singles sits alongside the melancholy of Badhead and This Is a Low, while shorter pieces and instrumental detours give the record its playful, unpredictable character. Rather than relying on one signature sound, Blur turn everyday observations into a varied collection of sharply drawn songs.
The album became the band's first UK number one and a central record in the Britpop movement, but its appeal extends beyond that moment. The contrast between humour and tenderness, immediate hooks and stranger musical ideas makes it rewarding to hear as a complete album.
