News!, issued by Sound Work Shop in 1979. Its taut rhythm, synthetic detail and forward motion make it an immediately effective opener. “Discomania”, drawn from The Soundwork-Shoppers’ 1978 album Discomusic, continues the dancefloor direction with a shorter burst of playful, functional disco production. Together, the two A-side selections show Umiliani’s ability to absorb contemporary club rhythms without losing his distinctive studio personality.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe B-side travels further back into the composer’s psychedelic and cinematic period. “Mondo Dove Vai? (Complesso Beat Con Effetti Elettronici Version)” comes from the 1971 soundtrack Questo Sporco Mondo Meraviglioso and combines beat-group energy with electronic effects. “Hippies (Part 2)”, taken from Psichedelica in 1968, closes the record with a colourful example of Umiliani’s fascination with countercultural imagery, unusual instrumentation and concise soundtrack construction.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAlthough the four tracks were created across more than a decade and originally belonged to different projects, they sit together naturally as a snapshot of Umiliani’s versatility. The record will appeal to collectors of Italian library music, cosmic disco, psychedelic soundtracks and adventurous seven-inch reissues. With all four selections newly remastered and unavailable together in this format until now, Dossier is both a useful DJ-friendly object and a focused celebration of one of Italy’s most inventive composers.
